PODSCAPE – Sounds & Stories of The City is a creative placemaking engagement tool, a community collaboration platform and a public space catalyst. Comprising of a travelling mobile recording booth and a podcast, it aims to foster a sense of community through the shared experience of recording and preserving the memories and stories of the neighbourhood.

Drawing inspiration from vintage airstream trailers and train cabins, the POD is designed to be the catalyst to a place. It is also the center of the PODSCAPE pop-up experience where facilitators will invite the community to record and listen to the sounds & stories of their neighbourhood.

With the mobile recording booth at its core, the modular design features additional segments to enable fringe programmes that will spark a shared communal experience. Compact and on-wheels, the POD is also able to pop-up at various spaces in a neighbourhood including town centres, void decks, carparks, and many other locations. In the spirit of placemaking, it is also always evolving thanks to insights gathered from the community at each pop-up!

The Podcast

What sounds & stories can we uncover in different parts of the city?

The PODSCAPE podcast explores that question through conversations with the local community, collaborations with creatives, and discussions with urban and cultural practitioners. Each season of the podcast spotlights a particular neighbourhood or part of the city and unravels soundscapes, music, and memories that are unique to the place.

Recorded on-site at the POD during the PODSCAPE pop-up experiences, the podcast is co-created with the community where members of the public are invited to step into the mobile recording booth and be a part of the podcast. The episodes and recordings are also broadcasted during the pop-up experience to transform the act of podcast listening into a communal experience in a public space.
